The Great Denby Cake Off – Announcing Our Winners

For the second year in a row, we’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of entries into the Great Denby Cake Off. It is clear that you love to celebrate everything Sweet & British as much as we do!

Our judges,Emma,Jessica and Regula had some tricky decisions on their hands (and their bellies were rumbling after looking at all those delicious bakes!) but after much deliberation, they’ve selected this year’s three winners. We’d like to say a big thank you to our judges for taking part and making this year’s contest such a success. Without further ado, here are their three faves…

1 - In first place, entering the mouth-watering ‘Mini Chocolate, Nutella Ganache & Hazelnut Praline Layer Cake’ was Hannah from Domestic Gothess. Regula described this as a truly “beautiful cake”. We all loved this entry, from the sugar work to the general presentation – wow! Hannah is the winner of £250 worth of Denby vouchers so that she can continue to bake and present more gorgeous goodies!

2 - In second place we had a twist on a classic afternoon tea favourite, the shortbread biscuit - ‘Salted Caramel Butter-Cream Sandwich Biscuits with Vanilla and Cardamom Shortbread, Drizzled in White Chocolate’ by Sally at Hello Little Lovely. Served alongside a Denby tea set – perfect!

Sally is the winner of ‘The Ultimate Baking Kit’ so she can make more of these for friends and family over Christmas and beyond.

3 - In third place, we witnessed some slightly unusual flavour combinations with a Courgette & Sunflower Seed Cake. Everyone felt that this bake really captured the fun of British afternoon tea. From little sunflowers to strawberry ladybirds, our judges loved this entry from Rebecca at The Beezley Buzz.

The competition is over for another year, but we hope you enjoyed it and will get practicing for next year’s contest. Keep baking, and remember – everything tastes better on a Denby plate!
