In 2010, Allegra Events identified the growing popularity of speciality coffee, and the need for an event in London that fused creativity and coffee. Within its first year, the London Coffee Festival welcomed over 7,000 visitors and 100 exhibitors. Fast forward to this year and the event attracted 30,488 visitors searching for the perfect cup of coffee; the festival is now the largest coffee event in the world. Gary and Caroline from our Design team headed to The Old Truman Brewery in East London for the day to experience the festival and uncover the latest movements in coffee. Both Gary and Caroline were amazed by the theatrical theming of the event, spread over two floors, with varying moods created through live music and the staging of each exhibitor. They were also pleasantly surprised to see up-and-coming beverages such as speciality teas, juices and hot chocolates as well as experimental takes on coffee, including coffee cocktails. The health benefits of each beverage was also prevailing, with the presence of raw and organic ranges, an emphasis on ethical suppliers and exceeding Fairtrade initiatives. Demonstrations, tasting sessions, workshops and barista competitions were all taking place, and visitors could enjoy live music from DJs whilst they made their way around the festival. Exhibitors ensured that their products were well presented, taking on a design-led approach and guests were encouraged to touch, feel, taste and smell each and every flavour. Overall, the atmosphere was exciting and vibrant, and clearly demonstrated the modernity and continued innovation surrounding coffee. Next year’s event is scheduled for the 6th- 9th April 2017 at The Old Truman Brewery, London - a must-visit for all interested in music, contemporary design and coffee.
