Farm Shop Opening at the Denby Pottery Village

This Thursday, we are celebrating the opening of award winning craft butchers, Walter Smith to a renovated site at our newly named, Denby Pottery Village.

Our Walter Smith Farm Shop will be dedicated to stocking the finest foods including, artisan bread, fresh cream cakes, charcuterie, olives, wine, a wide selection of cheeses as well as their renowned pork pie, sausages, roasting joints and steaks which are produced from locally sourced meat. Walter Smith’s team will prepare the meat onsite and be on hand to offer the support and advice to customers.

Walter Smith originated in 1850 when John Smith opened a butchers in his home village of Manea, Cambridgeshire. His son, George Arthur Smith was born on 18th July 1862 and later worked alongside his father and trained as a traditional butcher. In 1885, aged 22, George purchased a lease of small butchers in Birmingham on 88 Hospital Street. Ensuring that the business stayed within the family, George’s son took over the business in 1914 at the beginning of the First World War.

Today, there are over 10 Walter Smith stores across the Midlands which are recognised for their high-quality produce and home-made recipes. In addition, Walter Smith are part of the ‘Q Guild’ which distinguishes Britain’s Best Butchers. In order to provide the highest quality range, the meats are carefully selected and expertly prepared. Robert Jones, Director of Walter Smith has expressed the importance of working closely with local farmers to ensure that animal welfare is a firm priority as well as guaranteeing fair trade.

The Farm Shop produce will be showcased within our daily cookery demonstrations and visitors can experience the latest recipes, devised by our home economists. By providing an excellent standard of produce combined with an unparalleled level of service, we hope that we can provide a one stop shopping destination. Gary Capell, Retail Director for Denby said, “We’re really excited to be opening a Farm Shop at The Denby Pottery Village, it’s going to add a great new dynamic to the site. Here at Denby, we’re famous for our Made in England stoneware so Walter Smith’s dedication to locally sourced, artisan produce makes them the perfect choice for us to work with.”

The Denby Farm Shop will be opening on the 10th March 2016 at 10.00am with a formal opening by farmer and Countryfile's Adam Henson on the 1st April 2016.
